The VMS808-21-50-00-00 eddy current proximity sensor uses the eddy current effect to achieve non-contact detection of metal objects. It accurately adapts to shaft speed, zero speed, or key phase monitoring for fans and pumps, providing data for predictive maintenance.
The VMS808-21-50-00-00 sensor probe has a built-in high-frequency oscillating coil. When a high-frequency current is passed through it, an alternating magnetic field is generated. When a metal object (such as a gear or keyway on a fan shaft) approaches the probe, the magnetic field induces eddy currents on the metal surface. The reverse magnetic field generated by these eddy currents weakens the original magnetic field, causing the coil impedance to change. The sensor detects this impedance change and converts it into a standard electrical signal for output. The advantages of this non-contact design include: no direct contact with the metal object being measured, preventing mechanical wear, adapting to the high-speed rotation conditions of fans and pumps, and providing a long service life. Detection is also unaffected by oil and dust. Power plant fans and pumps often operate in an oily or dusty environment, which can easily cause traditional contact sensors to fail due to contamination. However, the VMS808-21-50-00-00 eddy current sensor's probe has no contact with the object being measured, so contamination does not affect magnetic field sensing.
For speed and zero-speed detection, the VMS808-21-50-00-00 proximity sensor calculates speed based on the number of teeth on a metal geared disc. No pulse output occurs at zero speed, enabling zero-speed monitoring. Key phase detection identifies specific keyways on the shaft and outputs synchronized pulses, providing a phase reference for vibration analysis. These features provide critical data for predictive maintenance of equipment, such as determining equipment jams based on speed fluctuations and locating faults by correlating key phase signals with vibration data.
